This week, I dropped by the Hospice UK event in the Scottish Parliament to find out more about Hospice Care Week and the incredible work being done by those caring for someone in a hospice. I also caught up with Strathcarron Hospice at the event, having met with them earlier this year.

Both the Finance & Public Administration Committee and the Economy & Fair Work Committee met this week. The Finance & Public Administration Committee met to discuss the cost-effectiveness of public enquiries, the Scottish Aggregates Tax (Administration) Regulations 2025, and the Revenue Scotland and Tax Powers Act Amendment Regulations 2025. The Committee also took evidence on the Building Safety Levy (Scotland) Bill from Peter Drummond of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and Jonathan Henderson of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The Economy & Fair Work Committee met to discuss the Digital Assets Scotland Bill.

The Robotarium hosted an exhibition stall in the Scottish Parliament this week. I visited to meet the team (including their robotic technologies!) to discuss investment into Scotland’s robotics, their current work and the transformation of public services, in turn improving lives and encouraging economic growth.

At First Minister’s Questions on Thursday, I asked about the Scottish Government’s considerations to further Labour UK Government measures on businesses, following a new report from the Scottish Chamber of Commerce. You can listen to my question and the answer from the First Minister in my previous post.

Finally, I sponsored the CILIPS event in the Scottish Parliament on ‘Libraries, intellectual freedom and culture wars’. This panel discussion formed part of Banned Books Week, and support for Scotland's libraries. Libraries are fundamental to our local communities, championing equitable access to information for all. It was a well-rounded debate, including library professionals and experts from the field.
